Acupuncture for Insomnia
Poor sleep and insomnia is a common health issue that unfortunately has become nearly normalized in our culture. Most people don't realize that sleep is a significant factor in overall wellness affecting memory, cognition, hormonal regulation, immune and even cardiac health.
All of us can have an occasional sleepless night, but when sleep is regularly compromised, it is time to seek treatment. The Western doctor may utilize pharmaceuticals and/or behavioral support, but Chinese medicine takes a different approach. While the root of insomnia in Chinese medicine is always related to the Heart organ and heart spirit, or Shen, we differentiate between difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or waking early or some combination of the three, in order to see the specific pattern of disharmony. Once identified, your practitioner will utilize acupuncture, likely herbs, and possibly supplements to improve sleep quality and duration. Of course, as with all our clients, we will make nutrition and lifestyle recommendations when indicated for truly holistic care.
